Activities

I’ve always tried to look at school as more than the classroom. It’s a gateway to so much more than just equations and chemical compounds. Amazing opportunities have been presented to me through school in my life, and I do my best to seize everyone. Here are some of the activities I've been or currently am involved in, thanks to school:

Drama

School Musical

From Willy Wonka to Willard, the Mad Hatter and Pinocchio and Grumpy the dwarf, here are the wacky characters i've come to know and love, because I played them. Since 6th grade i've been participating in school theater productions. Every year I make new friends, create new memories, and get songs stuck in my head forever. Here are the two most recent ones:

Footloose

Coming Soon... Peter pan

Broadway Bound

The Broadway Bound club runs all the schools' drama related events. This can include directing the school  musical, or hosting events such as ISTA (International Students Theater Association).

SAAC Chile

Coming April 2017

MYP Performing Arts award

I received this award for my dedication to the drama program my freshman year.

Morocco Trip/ UN Climate Talks

The most amazing experience of my entire life happened the week before Thanksgiving of 2016. It was a normal, boring day in class, when, all of a sudden a slide on the daily bulletin catches my eye. A chance to go to Morocco? Count me in! Obviously, because this was a school trip, there had to be some educationl purpose for us to go. That week, in Marrakesh, the UN climate talks were being held. 186 heads of state gathered to discuss this topic I feel very passionately about. We were able to attend, as one of only two high schools. As groups we prepared keynote presentations on specific areas hurting the earth, that we would then present at the international school of Marrakesh. We had wonderful cultural experiences such as spending a night with the indigenous people of the Sahara, the Berbers, and dining on delicious Moroccan cuisine.

Peer Buddies/WEB

Moving has been a huge part of my life. Living somewhere new, with a new culture, a new language, new friends, new lifestyle. Many people don't understand how hard it is to be the new kid. I do, and I've been wanting to do everything in my power to help those just like me. Peer Buddies, at my current school, has the goal of helping new students feel comfortable at their new school. We give them tours of campus and all, but most importantly we introduce them to a variety of students at the school, so the only challenge they'll face this semester is the math final, instead of finding friends. WEB (Where everybody belongs) was my middle school program for new students and incoming 6th graders. Middle school is rough, and it's nice to have a big brother/big sister figure to help you out. I was assigned 15 kids to look out for in the 2014-2015 school year. I love participating in programs such as these ones because it makes me feel that i've helped somebody, and that I can continue to help somebody.
